Egypt Raises $500 Million in International Bond Market Return
SHARE

Egypt has raised $500 million from international investors through the reopening of two existing dollar bond issues, as the government seeks to diversify its financing sources and manage external debt.

The transaction comprises $150 million in bonds maturing in 2030 and another $350 million due in 2033, giving the issuance an average maturity of approximately five years.

The latest fundraising comes as Cairo pursues a strategy to reduce the external debt of budget-sector entities by between $1 billion and $2 billion annually.

The government reported reducing this debt by approximately $2.4 billion in the 2025/2026 financial year.

Egypt is also broadening its access to international capital markets through different financing instruments. These include $1.5 billion in sovereign sukuk issued in October 2025, $1 billion in social bonds raised in May 2026 and sustainable Samurai bonds worth the equivalent of $500 million issued in June.

The Ministry of Finance says the strategy is intended to attract different investor groups, extend debt maturities and support sustainable development initiatives.

The $500 million bond reopening signals Egypt’s continued access to international financing despite economic and geopolitical uncertainties. However, balancing fresh borrowing with its debt-reduction commitments remains a key test of the country’s fiscal sustainability.
