Stanbic Bank Botswana has launched a $94 million initial public offering (IPO), opening up a 20% stake in the lender to local and institutional investors as the country seeks to deepen its capital markets.
The offer includes 319.4 million existing shares priced at 4.30 Botswana pula each, for a total value of about 1.37 billion pula ($94 million).
Stanbic Africa Holdings, a subsidiary of South Africa’s Standard Bank Group and the bank’s current shareholder, is selling the shares but will retain an 80% controlling stake after the transaction.
Of the shares on offer, 63.9 million have been reserved for retail investors, while the remaining allocation targets institutional investors.
The public offer opened on October 30 and is scheduled to close on November 27, 2026, with trading on the Botswana Stock Exchange expected to begin on December 7.
The listing is intended to broaden local ownership, promote citizen economic empowerment and give Botswana investors an opportunity to own part of one of the country’s established commercial banks.
The transaction is the third share offering on the local exchange in recent weeks, following nearly a decade without new listings.
